Beyond all of the things you may think you know, I'm just a kid trying to make it home- thats it.
No more, no less.

Anyone else remember BookIt! (?)
I remember this from like THIRD GRADE-doing this and reading the amount you were supposed to, and coming home with a FREE PERSONAL PAN PIZZA!
(oooh yeah!)
i read some awesome books through the BookIt! Program, like
i visited a good friend tonight out in Hemet, Joey and Jo-Lyn Azterbaum, and we spent the night telling stories and catching up the way we do.
but Joey told me the story of him and Jo-Lyn going to a mormon church back in their college years.
if you dont know, the Mormon Church uses water during communion with bread, to represent the body and blood of Christ. Im not sure why... i was told once, but i dont remember.
anyway, so... joey is sitting there and he said the only thing that went through his head was:
"Jesus turned water into wine, and the Mormons turned it back..."
i laughed so hard it hurt.
:D
i thought i would re-tell that story to you.
yay!
well... now im sitting in Starbucks, with my grasshopper in hand... seeing the same people come in and out of htese doors that i have seen for the past few years. its amazing how, within this town, there are so many things you can count on- seing the same people at the same places is one of them.
now, i wonder if i can really put off writing essays much longer.
the question of the day from Phil DeFranko: who wins? pirates vs. ninjas?
the answer, in musical form:
Lyrics:
Pirates vs. Ninjas:
You've asked us a question that is older than time Pirates or Ninjas, who's cooler and why So I took my guitar and I wrote you this song And I hope that you all sing along
The life of a pirate is exciting to boot When you're not raping women you plunder and loot You cuss and you drink and you don't give a hoot Oh a pirate's life is quite grand
A pirate ships captain is quite a cool dude Then you'd surrounded by your loyal crew Unless they all mutinied, then you'd be screwed Oh a pirates life's not that bad
Being a pirate takes quite a great skill Living moment to moment, just for the thrill And if the hookers don't kill you the scurvy sure will Oh a pirate's life's not that great
The life of a ninja is really quite fun Your mission, quite simple, kill everyone And you do not ask questions you just get it done Oh a ninjas life is quite rad
A ninja is trained in both bo staff and spear With nunchuck and sword he's got nothing to fear If he gets into trouble he'll just disappear Oh a ninjas life's pretty sweet
A ninja has never been born he is bred He trains hours on end breaking boards with his head And if he makes one wrong move, then he will be dead Oh a ninja's life is intense
So you've asked us to tell you the best of the two And I think I am ready to explain it to you A pirate is simple, perverted, and crass But a ninja will quietly murder your ass

to me, it is important to live, to really live. but as i say that, i really have no idea what that means. i would see myself as a radical, a person that does things that are not normal, that are not socially acceptable, but not for the sake of doing them... but for the sake of pushing others to ignite. for some reason, i see myself as a catalyst, here to push people together and to ignite in them something... SOMETHING tangible to work with. i believe that it is only out of tension that things grow, that only by fire are things purified, and that only by the unending grace of god are we able to live, breath and think... not to mention sing.
i love Jesus, i am not going to say that i love him with my whole heart, because i dont know how to do that... i have been contemplating what being a follower of Christ looks like, because i have seen so many different pictures and ideas about what it means to follow him. I have learned that the only way to really understand the being that named himself the Savior, this God who is in heaven, is to realise that he loves me... i echo the thoughts of Brennan Manning in his book "The Ragamuffin Gospel" when he says "my deepest awareness of myself is that i am deeply loved by Jesus Christ and i have done nothing ot earn or deserve it".
im not sure what the christian life looks like, but i know that i am persuing it... and that in that, God is found. all of the theology we try to put on God, all of the crap we try to throw in the way, it all is obliterated in the light of grace... for the Gospel of Jesus is not one of what you do, but who you know... its relational, its dynamic, its a flowing, moving current of life and love and hardship and joy and good and truth and forgiveness and nothingness, all moved in and through this idea, this river of amazing grace... how sweet the sound!
